Version 1
This document is based on a presentation in response to new regulations and
corporate scrutiny on business crisis management planning, as a result of
national incidence, business reporting requirements and corporate and board
level risk assessments.
This presentation includes:
-
Baseline program elements, which define the
program that Council members and faculty, and research indicate is the current trend to
mitigate major risks
-
Program characteristics: The elements most frequently identified in
successful programs or that lead to the success of programs and executive
support. These characteristics are most often the items included in
benchmarking studies due to the fact they are readily observable and often
most similar in sector company comparisons
-
A program maturity model has been included . Although there is no widely
recognized model for corporate security, the collective knowledge of faculty
and members clearly identified these 5 elements as stages of progress
that security programs evolve through . With these stages we can clearly
evaluate any program.
-
Graphics to effectively communicate to senior management included: Corporate
Contingency Planning Umbrella and Current State Assessment
This presentation can be used as a benchmark for your program or to educate
senior management (or new leadership) on your program or direction you are
trying to take it. The role of the security function is very dependant on the
corporations culture and definition of security. There is no one industry
standard. The ability to demonstrate the successful range of business continuity
programs and the role of security will go a long way in providing options from
which a program can be modeled. This collective knowledge is also for our own
documenting, understanding and evaluation of the function as it currently exits.
